FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
The quarterly installation of officers bf the Mosgiel Anchor of Hope Lodge, No, 7-l_ 1.0. G.T.; took placein the lodge-room on Saturday evening a good number Of brethren being present; One member was reobligiited, aud one initiated. Bro. J. Turnbull occupying the W.^.T. chair. The past officers handeel in their reports, showing that the lodge was iv a forward and prosperous condition. During the quarter six sisters and 19 brothers had been initiated, bringing the total membership up to 80. Tho reports having been adopted, L.D. Bro. J. M'Ewen, assisteel by Bros. li. Hay and J. Smith (who acted respectively as G.W.M. aud D.M.), proceeded toinhtall the following officers i—W.C.T., Bro. T. Neil; W.V.T., Sis. S. Mackie; W.S., Sis. E. Collie; W.C., Sis. A. Hunter; W.P.S., Bro. 3. M'lntyre; XV.T., Bro. T. Mackie; W.M,, Bro. A. Rowan; W.1.G., Bro. J. Ronton; W.0.G., Bro. K. Holland; W.A.S,jBro. A. Bringans; W.D.M., Sis. M. Wedderspoon j P.W.C.T., Bro. J. Turnbull. Tho newJy-iustalled W.C.T. made a few appropriate remarks, after which the lodgo was Closed in due form;
The quarterly installation of officers of the Juvenile Temple Anchor of Hopo Lodge, Mosgiel, took place ou Saturday evening, thero being a capital attendance of juvenile Templars present. In the absence of the W.C.T., P.W. C.T. Bro. Fred M'Leod acted and opened the lodge in due form. The hon. secretary (Bro. G. Gunton) gave a highly flattering accouut of the working of the temple, stating they had now 142 members good on the books. During the last quarter 43 initiations had taken placo — viz, 17 sisters and 26 brothers. The statement was received with applause. The lady superintendent, Sis. B. Burns, thanked the retiring officers for the assistance thoy had been to her during the past quarter. The worthy sister assisted by Bro. G. Gunton and Sis. E. Young, who acteel respectively as installing marshall and D.M., then proceeded to install the following officers—viz. :— W.C.T., Bro. R. Davidson; W.V.T., Sis. M. Dickie; W.S., Sis. S. Turnbull; W.C., Sis. Minnie Murdoch; W.F.S., Sis. R. Gibson; .W.T., Bro. XV. Robinson; W.M., Bro. H. Taylor; W.T.G., Bro. M. Brown; W.0.G., Bro. J. Gibson ; W.AS., Sis. M'Leod; W.D.M., Sis. E. Toylcr; P.W.C.T., Bro. Fred M'Leod (re-elected). A hearty vote of thanks was proposed to the retiring officers, after which the closing ode was sung and the teniple closed.
