By order of the General Manager. H. DRIVER, District Manager. Oh-ces: Corner of High and Manse streets. ■ Dunedin. aju AUSTRALIAN MUTUAL PROVIDENT SOCIETY. OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED ENGLISH BRANCH. The following are the names of the Committee appointed by the Policyholders to oppose the extea. sion of the Society's business to the United Kingdom and to other places abroad; and to maintain the Society as a purely local institution, with its opera, tions confined to the Australasian Colonies, including ~ Tasmania and New Zealand, according to its present constitution: — Darlei-, the Hon. F. M., Gormax, Hesbv M.L.C. Wilkinson, Judge Campbell, the Hon. A., Wilkixson, Dr., M.L.A. M.L.C. . Willis, W. 0. Dibbs, the Hon.'G. R., King, R. J. M.L.A. Kns, F. W. Cohen, the Hon. H. E. Green, T. O'Sullivaj; Garrick, A. C. Hiluer, Alered Mullens, Josiah M'Elhoxe, Johk Smith, Robert Wilshire, A. T. Arthur, John, Esq. Goerges, K. W. (Messrs Cramsie, Bow-Lee. Fredk. den, and Arthur) v Marsh, J. M., S.M. ' Campbell, Gerald Ryder, Rupert Doxkin, J. B. Salwkv, Herbert. Members of the Society desirous of voting against the projected extension of the Society's business are requested to forward their proxies to any member of the Committee or to the following address :— The Hon. Sec, F. W. King, 2 O'Connell street, Sydney. Proxy forms can be obtained at any Branch Office of the Society or of the Agents. A FEW REASONS AGAINST GOING TO ENGLAND. 1. The late Chairman (the Hon. John Smith, M.D.) was opposed to it. 2. No extra profits to Australian members can result. English premiums mean proportionate division of profits amongst English constituents. The proposed extension to England is a policy of inflation without advantage. 3. Australian lives are select lives, owing (I.) To the nature of emigration, which ia of itself selection: (II.) To the favourable conditions of life in Australia. 4. It is proposed to water our profits by taking business in an old country in which the upper and wealthier classes are subject to the evil effects of luxury, and the less fortunate are liable to smallpox, cholera, and consumption—things not known or of little importance in our mortality tables. 5. The mortality of our members has always been far below the scientific mortality calculated upon. Will you forfeit this immense advantage ? 6. It has been shown by Mr Black that the rate of the Society's mortality has been only about half that of the twenty leading British offices, and one-third of the Northampton tables. (See pace 30. " Mortality Tables A.M.P. Society.") ■ NOTICE TO CREDITOR 8. In the matterof the Liquidation of theDUNTBOON AND HAKATERAMEA RAILWAY COMPANY (Limited).
