MR FULTON AND THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I think your article regarding Mr Fulton's action iv the University Council is most unfair. He brought forward certain propositions enunciating the principle that the University Council should alone be competent to appoint and dismiss its professors. As the Council would not affirm the principle, I for one think he was quite right hi not descending to the personal question of whether they appointed Dr Salmond or anyone else. It is a great pity more people here do not work on principle and leave out the personal element. It is this latter that makes Duuedin what ifc has become —a regular tinpot place.—l am, Sc, X. Y. Z.
