GRAND NATIONAL MEETING, (Pcs United Press Association.)

Ohristohuroh, May 27.

The New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase meeting was held to-day. The weather was fine but-oloudy, with a strong south*weßt breeze. The courae waa in excellent order. About 2000 people were present. The following are tbe results :—

OBAND NATIONAL HANDICAP, Ol 200 so'vs. About four miles.

Lunn'a King Arthur (12st 41b), and W. Proffitt'a Scrutineer (12st 21b), also ran. Betting: 2to 1 against Linwood and Ravenswood, 3 to i Berrington, 4 to 1 King Arthur, !i to 1 the others. • ■*...'> King Arthur led at the start, Berrington being seoond, and Moody third. Approaching the big sod wall King Arthur had a lead of 20 lengths from Linwood, who waa followed by Berrington,! Moody, Scrutineer, and Ravenawood in the order named. At the double, opposite the grand stand, King Arthur and Linwood refuaed, and Berrington led the othera over. At the fence, by Outts', Scrutineer baulked, and Berrington got a length's advantage of Moody, who waa the same distance from Linwood. The gorse near Ford's waß negotiated by Berrington, Linwood, and Moody, in the order named. After going once round Linwood went up to Berrington, and the big sod fence was taken by tbe pair in company with ' Moody, six lengths behind whom came Ravenswood fourth. After two miles Moody cloaed on tbe leaders. At the double opposite the stand Berrington knocked down tbe second hurdle. The fence at Cutts' was taken by Berrington, with Linwood on biß quarters, and Moody a couple of lengthß away, a long gap aeparating him from Ravenawood, King Arthur, and Scrutineer. King Arthur fell one mile and a-quarter from bomo, and tbe three leaders took the gores opposite Ford'B simultaneously. Hobbs then fetohed Moody np, and a pretty race ensued between tbe threo. Moody led at the third fence from home, olosely followed by Berrington and Linwood, Ravenswood coming up band over hand. At the first sod wall in the straight Ravenswood fell, Sheonan being severely shaken. Moody was never caught, and won easily, Linwood second, a good halfdozen lengths ahead of Berrington. Sefton led at the start, followed by Donald and Secretary, Pickles bring up the rear. At the doable opposite tbe stand Sefton led, witb Donald second, and Secretary third. Donald waa the only one wbo got safely over the fence near Outta', and by tbe time be had reached Ford's he bad placed a quarter of a mile' between himaelf and Sefton. Ho was never caught, and won by tbat distance, Sefton being about three lengths from Pickles, Seoretary nowhere.. Totalisator dividends, £2 9s 6d and £2 Ba. For the Hurdles Mr R. Leaver'a Seoretary walked over, Master Agnes and Scrutineer being scratched.

TALLY-HO HANDICAP, About two and a-half mile].

Moody drew ahead, but baulked at the next double. Berrington waa firat over the fence at Outta', Ravenawood three lengths behind j the others Borne distance off. Five horseß were entered, all belonging to memberH of tho 0.V.0. Trooper Patterson waa thrown, and somewhat severely hurt. The Consolation Handicap (two miles) waa won by Mr W. Proffitt'a Scrutineer, About £4000 was put through tbe two totalisators during tho day.
