Offices: At Earn street, Naseby. This Company ls formed for tho purpose ot opening - out and woruing certain Auriferoua Qaarlz reef a existing at Rouj;h Kidge (on the east side of Ida Valley). County ol Maniototo, Otaj-o, New Zealai.d .The right to work these reefs will be acquired by the Company by the purchase from the p.esect holders of the claim of their rieht, title, and interest ' therein for the sum of £60. This party of men (four in number) will then take 100 shires each in the Company, subject to the same conditions as other shareholders. ■•■>.. From the lode in which it is p-oposed to commence operations aeveral crushinga have been taken, amounting in the aggregate to about 200 tons,-the yieldafrom which have run from half an ounce to lj-z of gold per ton, which atatement can be verified by peraona ot reliability now resident in the locality. A crushiDg of 25 tons a few weeka ago yielded 17Joz retorted gold, and a further parcel of 45 tona ia now in prceaßß ot being broken out for the mill. ' The greatest depth worked ia about 40ft, where the ground btcomea hard and very wet, rendering it unremunerative to work by meana of obatts. -It la thr ra- ' fore proposed to drive an adit from a low level a ' distance of 250 ft, which will croaa two or threa other lmea of reef before reaching the Otago Central, under the preaent workinga, at a depth of 100 f t; and, when extended onward, tho B»id adit will give "backa" to be "stoped" cut of from 250 ft to 3001 c. The hill ahead of the preae'nt workinga ia intersected by a number of gold-bearing veins, from aome of which crushinga havo been taken yielding aahighaß threb odkces psk tos. Aa they generally converge toward the reef proposed to be driven upon, it is evident that many of them will ultimately unite acd form o;!e continuous and very valuable body of ore. When a sufficient depth shall have been reached by the level, cross cuts cauld be taken north and south, to test the many other lodea existing in the locality; and if the anticipationa of those who know the country (men of considerabla reefing experience) are only approximately verified, the resulta will be almoat unprecedented in the annala of quartz-reefing in New Zealand. . - Gkkeral Remarks.—The present proprietors aro • not in a position to work tho claim with advantage to themselvea. for the reason that they have not the meana at their disposal for driving the proposed tunnel, hence the exceedingly low price demanded by them for the claim. - The Bough Ridge Company's battery ia but a short diatance from the mine, and the cost of transporting etone for reduction haa hitherto been 2s per ton. The climate te excellent, fuel abundant and very cheap, ■ and work can be prosecuted throughout the whole of the year. -The proposed route ot the Olaio Central railway ia distant only a quarter of a mile from the claim.—Success for thia Uompany would brisg about a com,-?leto revival of the quaitz-recflcg industry in the county, and give mining mattera a much-required impetua. Thia, and the modejt amount of aubacribed capital asked lor, should recommend tho venture to speculators and the public generally. Applicationa for shares, with a deposit of 3d per I share, may bo forwarded to Mr L. A. NORMAN, Secretary, Naseby. When no allotment ia made; the deposit will be returned in full. Many persona have already Big ificd their intention of becomitig shareholders, over 3coo shares haviig been already applied for, and it is requested that intending ahareholdera shall mike application aa eaily aa postibU, aa the Share List will cloae at an early date, which will be notified shortly. This Company is proiroted for the^ purpose of working tbe valuable teams of coal upon the property of Mr Jamea Frazer, of Kaitangata. The property comprises about 1400 acrea in the Kaitangata and luakitoto diatricta, and the proprietor ha", by an agreement dated tho 9th day of April 1884, made between himself and Mr Herbert Deveril, granted the exclusive right of mining for and extracting coal upon the said property, with the right to uae and occupy such space on the surface of the land as maybe lequired for buildings, deposit of waste, and such other purposea aa may be requiaite for tho prosecution ' of the woik of coal-miniog, alao the right of uaing tha water upon the property, for the period of 99 yeaM, at a peppercorn rental and a royalty cf 6d per ton for large coal ar.d 2d per ton for email coaler dross extracted and aold. The proprietor of the property alao agrees to give portions of hia land required for .he conßtiuccion of a railway from the mine to the Government line. By a memorandum of agreement dated the 12th day of Juiy 1884 Mr Deveril has assigned all hia righta under the above recited agreement to Mr Horace Ba.tinga, as trustee for the propoaed Company, in consideration of having allotted to him, or hiß nominee, 10,000 aharea in tbe Company, in respect of which the aum of 10a each ahall be regiatered aa paid up. No other consideration U to be given either to the Promotera or the Providonal Directora. ' . ■ ■ ■ 1 The coalfield ia situated about five mileß from Stirling, and seven and a-half milea from the Lovell'a Flat railway-atation. A competent engineer haa reported upon the cost of railway from the inino to the Govtrnment line at Lovell'a Flat, and eatimatea It, Including a locomotive, at the aum ef £18,723 6s 3d. The reasons which havo influenced the promotera in proposing to connect the mine by rail with the Government line at Lovell'a Flat inßtead of at Stirling are: a saving of lOd per ton in haulage to Dunedin, and that it is the only praclicable route to the important farming diatricta of Wangaloa and the coast, and wnl consequently command the grain traffic fr^m tboae districts, and thus augment the earninga of the railway. ... . The promoters have had the coalfield tested under the superintendence of Mr A. Ferguson, a certificated colliery manager under the mining regulations of Great Britain, whceo report, together with tho3e of MrC E. Twining, the well-known mining engineer and Mr A. M'Kay of the Government Geological Department (acting under instructions from Dr Hector), and Professor Black'a analysis are appended. From theae reporta it will be seen that the quality of the cOal ia unquestionable, practically unlimited iD quantity, and, owing to ita poaioion, "can bewonfroniseveral different placea at the same time without interfering with ono another " (Mr Xwiniug's report) and at a minimum cost, aa no expensive machinery will be required to work the mine, owing to the favourable situation of the scams. One of the ad vantages claimed for this mine is that flooding could not occur, and ahould the workings take fire at any time, coal could be procured from several other points at trifling cott and little delay, ao that the output ia not liable to be eeriouely interfered with by casualties that occur in coalmines worked under lesa favourable condition?. . As very little outlay outside tho cost cf constructing tha railway will be required to enable the Company to place the coal in the Dunedin market, it la estimated that 10a per share will be Bufficlent to .meet the necessary outlay. Aa an indication of the probable return for the capital to he invested in this undertaking, it may be mentioned that an analysis of the revenue account of tbe Kaitangata Bailway and Coal Company for the past three years givca an average annual net profit of 30 per cent, upon its paid up capital. The very moderate royalty to be paid, and the natural facilities afforded for mining and conveying the coal to market, will enable the Company to sell at a price that will command a ready sale. The reporta and analyoia above mentioned may be cen at the office of the Brokera. - I6jy Royal Mail. J> OVAL MAIL LINE OF COACHES lw (COBB & CO.)
