WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At the ordinary meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council, held at the Council Chambers, Ravensboume, last evening, there were present—The Mayor (in the chair), aud Crs Adams, Jack, Curie, Bain, Young, Albury, aud Bolton.

The minutea of* the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The following letters were read, viz.:—

From Mr J. A. Hislop, solicitor, reminding the CouncU that on the Ist September last judgment was signed iv the Supreme Court of Dunedin against the Borough in an action wherein thoy were defendants, and Mr Robert Hay, C.E., wa3 plaintiff, the debt being £255 10s 6d and coats (£9 10s 6d)—total £265105, which carries interest from date of judgment, and stating that he would bo glad to hear as to tho Council's means of satisfying judgment.— On tho motion of Cr Jack, seconded by Cr Ci-kle, it was decided that the Mayor and clerk call on Mr Hislop and explain the position of the borough in the matter. From Mr M'Kenzie, contractor, aßking for the sum of £100 as a progress payment on the Burkes road contract.—On the motion of Cr Jack, seconded by Cr Cuble, it was reßolved to pay Mr M'Kenzie the su<n of £GO. Accouuts from Mr Waghorn and Mr Reed, for work done in the borough, were passedfor payment; and an account from Mr Dunning, for coal and carting, was referred to the Finance Committee.

On the motion of Cr Adams, it was decided to receive applications from persons willing to act us ranger to the borough, and that when appointed the ranger should receive a nominal salary in addition to the fines obtained through tho Court.
