Sir,—lt was stated I believe in your columns that, in February last, .Government had instructed Jlr Blair to call for tenders for the completion of the above road. TJp to the present nothing seems to have been done, although winter is fast approaching, and the road wellnigh impassable. It seems strange that the outlay of a few pounds at the proper time,- that would have kept the road in decent working order—which may now, cost as many tens— should have been delayed so long, and Jjhis within a few miles of the Melbourne of New Zealand ; but it is so. It is to be hoped spmething will be done, and that at once, or we ■shall begin to think Government intend to put us off into the remote future. The r.o^d is formed and partly metalled for about three niijes i from Dunedin • after that, the drays have to pass ' over a road, formed it is true, but not an ounce < of metal on it; consequently the wheels in many places sink up to the naves in the ruts,.to the imminent danger of the horses. Even the part already formed and metalled-is .a disgrace to any borough. A few shillings spent in cleaning the water-tables would have saved pounds'and avoided the water running down the middle of the road—unless, indeed, we are to stay at home, or get some of those Yankee steamboats that can go in about two inches of water. Surely after such a splendid result as the releasing of the Otago runs the settlers hero .might be attended - to'in ; a small way.—l Jim, &c, '■'.'.'.'" ■'■'..:'
