FIRE-ESCAPES.
TO THt! EDITOE.
Sir,—l notice in your issue: of April 3rd a paragraph noticing the trial of a so-called fireescape said to be the invention of Mr Thomson, of the firm of Owen and Thomson, saihnakers. Now, Sir, the said fire escape is in every respect, save the neatness of construction, a facsimile of one invented by me, and several times noticed in your valuable paper, and which gained me a prize £7 and a certificate at the fireescapecompetition in the Caledonian-grounds on November 10th, 1879, against, three other competitors. And since that time my escape has been kept in constant readiness at some of the leading hotels in Dunedin; so that I think, Sir, I am entitled to expose the unhandsome conduct of Messrs Thomson and Owen in claiming for their own an invention already .three years before the public.—l am, &c., /'■"■:■ '■; H.
