C.E., Dunedin ; With power to add to their number Bankers: The Bank of New Zealand. Solicitors : Messrs Haggitt Brothers and Brent. Interim Secretary : Mr C. White. Broker: Mr W. P. Street. The Company is formed for the purpose of acquiring, levelopinff, and extending the existing business of tho keen Island Patent Stone Company, and for raanuacturing Portland Cement, an article very extenively used in the Colony, ■at present wholly imrartcd. Tho works are at Abbotsford, five miles from Dun idin, on the Main South line, and comprise suitable mildings, machinery, and everything requisite for luccessfully carrying on tho manufacture of Patent' Stone. , ' ■ The business hitherto has been the making of buildng blocks, llaggiug, kerbing, channelling, drainpipes, md every description of stonework. A careful ostimate has been made, which shows ;hat, without additional machinery—allowing liborilly for cost of management and expenses generally, md paying 17s 6d per barrel for imported cement—an mnual profit of about £2400 can be realised on this industry alone. PORTLAND CEMENT. The Directors desire to call eßpecial attention to bheir intended manufacture of Portland Cement, - which, as a new native industry, is of tho greatest importance, and one that is certain to be very remunerative. A Government bonus is attached to tho manufacture of this article in New Zealand from Colonial ingredients; and the Green Island Patent Stone Company has been successful in obtaining the order tot 100 tons connected with it. This order wa3 given from samples, made by Mr C. Hibberd from materials found in abundance in tho neighbourhood of Abbotsford and Waihola. Tho excellence of thesosamples is evident from the favour- - able reports made upon them by Mr W. N; Blair, who tested them on behalf of the Government, and of ■" Professor Black, tho Colonial Analyst, who analysed them. Tho fornior 6tates: "Tho raw materials used in making the Green Island Cement are undoubtedly of the proper kinds, consequently tho production of a high-class article is a. mere matter of skill in tho manufacture"; and the latter: "From these results I judge this to bo an excellent sample of Cement. The valuable ingredients are present in tho requisite condition in very good proportion. I have no doubt that, 60 far as chemical analysis can determine, this Cement is equal to any imported." The Judges of the recent Industrial Exhibition held at Dunedin also testified to tho excellence of these samples of Cement by awarding them First Order . of Merit, which was also awarded for tho Patent Stone. That tho establishment of this manufacture would be remunerative to tho Shareholders is evident from the fact that whilst Cement can bo manufactured and sold in England at 8s Od per barrel, here it is worth from 10s to 18s, showing the cost of freight, duty, and other charges to bo between 7s 6d and 0s 6d per barrel, which to a considerable extent may be relied upon as profit to the Colonial manufacturer. ■ . •'■'. That tho demand for Cement in tills Colony is very ~ great is also evident from the fact that no less than 131,193 barrels were imported into the four principal ports of New Zealand during the year 1880, giving a total value of £104,598 8s (at the low price of 10s per barrel). The Directors have ascertained that the cost of machinery and plant required for the production of 500 barrels of Cement per week would bo £6000. This sum includes the cost of removal and re-erection of the present Patent Stone Machinery to more extensive premises, and of the erection of all necessary new •buildings. The Memorandum and Articles of Association may. be seen at the Office of tho Interim Secretary, Temp!o " Chambers, Dunedin, from whom, or from the Broker, or any Branch of tho Bank of New Zealand, Prospectuses and Forms of Application for Shares and every information may be obtained.
