RAILWAY EMPLOYES' BENEFIT SOCIETY.

TO THK EDITOR. E I r i —On reading the report from the Committee in your paper of this day, it states that the Committee called attention to a disputed subscription of £112s, which did not appear to have been debited to Oamaru by the late secretary. , , . This statement is .not correct, and may mislead members; in fact, by the wording of the report, members would naturally suppose that I had absconded with £1123 of the Society's money. This amount should have been re-charged by the treasurer on the 12th April, which was not done till after I had left the service. To clear me in thii matter, I beg you will insert the following letters from the acting-secretary, Oamaru :— "29th July, 1881.-X do not dispute that I asked you to re-charge me with £1 12a. but as the account did not come to hand I included it in a. subsequent advice, which was duly re-charged to me, and toil should have set the matter right." "17th August, 1381.—Yours of 13th inst. to hand, re £1123. Eight shillings of the amount wasincluded in amount of £S 163 recharged in May, and tho balance, £1 4s, was re-charged in June." Members will now see that the present secretary and treasurer have received this amount from Oamaru, and not your obedient servant and late secretary, Jambs DbClutoid. Seacliff Hotel, August 18th,
