RABBIT NUISANCE BILL.

Mr Rolleston'a Rabbit Nuisance Bill is just out. The chief provisions are the following :—

Rabbit district to be defined; boroughs excluded; specified unoccupied Native lands, and Crown lands to be snlj.'ot to the Act; inept otors to bo appointed ; animal t&x may bt levied of one fanning per acre; inspector to make landuwnern' list for votio/j purpose*. Notices of rates; rates may be recovered by inspector; objection to rate may be^ lodged ; Colonial Treasurer to pay composition for Crown and Native land) Bubj»ct to Act; occupier of Crown laud* or Native lsuda liable; rates to be appropriated to par poses tf Act ; inapectorn to have free entry on Crown and Native lands and destroy rabbits thereon ; paymont of coßt thereof to be made out of voib of Parliament; landowners re. quired to destroy rabbits; penalty for neglocting to destroy rabbits not less thau LI nor mort than L2O; inspector may cause rabbits to \>e destroyed at cost of landowner neglecting to do bo, and may enter upon lands to ascertain existence of rabbits ; authorised persona not to be deemed trespassers ; penalty for obstructing inspector, &c, L2O; rabbit-catchers' dogs exempt frum taxation ; penalty f>r liberating live rabbits LSO, or six months' imprisonment with hard labour; animals being enemies of the rabbit protected; penalty for destroying animals protected ; offences may be dealt with numm&rily; Governor may make regulations for administration of Act; penalties to go to Consolidated Fund ; accounts, &a, to be kept, and audited, and submitted to Parliament " Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1880," repealed.
