PALMERSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is with pleasure I see MrJFagan's disclaimer in to-day's issue, and am glad he had nothing- to do with the " Zetus" correspondence. lam sorry that in the humorous account I pave you of the burning , , Mr Fagan's surname was mentioned, as he was not there, and I have since learned that he had nothing whatever to do with the affair. Mr Fagan is leaving Pahnerston, and the whole district will regret losing a valuable public man. He has always taken an active and prominent part in all public affairs. He is the father of the Corporation, and, along with a few leading spirits, secured the valuable reserves which it enjoys. The pest of small communities is the inevitable bu-ybody, who spends a large portion of his valuable time in magnifying and manufacturing faults, and delights in setting people by the ears. Few will come out of a 10 years'trial of such an ordeal with as unsuTed a public or private reputation as Mr Fagan. The gentlemen who composed the effusions signed " Zetus " may yet find, in spite of their little artifice, that they will have as much " scorn and contempt" to spare as would stock a dozen effigies.—l am, &c. Anti-Humbuo.
