New Zealand comes next, with 626 ves<eli. of 47,443.; tons. Victoria, although only possessing 319 yes els,, has a total tonnage of 64,293. South Australia has 251 vessels, of 81,743 toils; Tasmania, 209 vessels, of 20,636 tons; Western Australia, 113 vessels, of 6641 tons; and Queensland — the lowest onthe list -85 vessel, of 4625 tons The total number of colonial-owned vessels is 2233, possessing a gross tonnage of 264,161. Since these returns were published, the Union Company of New Zsa'and has boughtthe greater number of Messrs M'Meckan and Blackwood's Bteamers, which will considerable swell thetotal of this Colony. Again, tbe Now Zealand Shipping Compwy'd large fleet of sailing vessels are not included in the list, though in reality belonging to the - Colony. Of the various New Zealand ports, Auckland owner most vessels, viz., 260, of 15,130 tons; but Dunedin,. with only 108 vessels, possesses 16,642 tons. Lyttelton has 67 vessels, of 6315 tons ; and Wellington 50, of 6702 tons. Nelson is fifth on the list, with 23 vosselg, of 1202 tons; luvercarjriU sixth, wMi 10 vessels, of 832 tons ; and Napier seventh, with 8 vessels, of 620' tons. ■The number of nominations taken at theImmigration Office, Dunedin, between the 25th< of January and the 21st of February, 1879, was--183 souls, equal to 160£ statute adults. There are now about 1477 statute adult immigrants afloat for New Zealand, and theGovernment are seriously considering the propriety of sending a cablu message to the AgentGeneral to send out 2000 labourers immediately to meet the demand for labour in the Colony. During the quarter ended December 31st; there were exported from the Colony 1,369,729 rabbit-skins, valued at L 11.029.
