DUNEDIN HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

I The Dunedin Hospital Management Committee met on Wednesday, and received a deputation from the City Council representing t1 c Local Board of Health. The deputation asked that the present Fever Hospital, which had been erected by the Corporation, might ba removsd and placed alongside^ the General Hospital in Great King street. The Committee would not decide anything hastily, and resolved to refer the matter to the medical staff of the Dunedin Hospital to see whether it would b6 advisable to accede to the wishes of the deputation or not, and stated that they would communicate the decision to* the CityCouncil at an early date. After the transaction, of other business, the Hospital Committee then, visited the different wards in the Hospital, and. directed their attention more particnlary toNo. 9 ward, which is situated in the wooden, building which was erected for the reception, of machinery on the occasion of the Exhibition. On inspection, it was found that the floors; were rotten, and much of that portion of the= building referred to was going to decay, and that beneath the flooring, including No. 9; Ward, owing to the formation of the ground, adeposit of mud and offensive matter from two to three feet in depth, had accumulate]. W& understand that the Committee decided to remove the wooden building altogether, and to lecate the kitchen and cooking department of the Hospital beneath the basemtnt story of tha main building, which is at present unused. The Committee were also not pleased with the accommodation afforded in the vari.-.us wards, and did not consider that it was anything like what it should be. There were neither clcsets, baths, nor lavatories attached to any of the wards, and there was only one lavatory and one bath available for the whole of the patients. The bath was situated near the kitchen. The water closets were also found to be in a very offensive condition, the odour from them penetrating a considerable distance around the building.
