The fire in Beach street, Sandridge, totally destroyed the premises of Messrs Barrow, Baker, Head (wine shop), Bay View Hotel, Mrs Eller's boarding-house, Jacobson's boot and shoe shop, offices and stable 3 occupied by Mr Kenny (fish salesman), and the Australasian Hotel is damaged. Messrs Donaldson, shipuhandlers, have a large amount of property destroyed, but their place of business is saved. December 29!.h. A school teacher, near Ararat, has been arrested on a charge of uttering forged cheques. The heat in some parts of the country yesterday was registered at 109deg. A tire at Carlton, this morning, destroyed two dwelling-houses in Drummoad street. A man named Lionel Harter has committed suicide by poison in Little Goliins street.
