THE VOLUNTEERS.
A match took place yesterday morning between eight of the Otago Representative in the Colonial Firing, and eight of the No. 1 Company. The ranges were 200, 400, 500, and 600 yards, five shots at each. The No. 1 Company were defeated by 40 points. Out of the shots in the Dunedin Companies, such a team could have been selected as would have come very close to, if not surpassed, the score of the Representatives, and a team from one company could not have expected other than such a defeat. The following are the scores :—
Average—6o-2
no. 1 company.
Average—ss.2s.
The representatives do not' go North till this day week, and it was proposed on the range that a match should be fired between the nine represenatives and a team of equal strength, to which the Artillery, Naval, and North Dunedin should contribute three members each. The proposed match, we understand, will probably take place.
