Only 35 were required to win by New South Wales. At the conclusion of the second day's play their victory was regarded as a certainty. The match had not finished when the Easby left. Sydney, somewhat unexpectedly, has come to the fore this season. Certainly she plays a much stronger team than of late years she has been accustomed, acd the Melbourne team h-is been sadly weakened by the refusal of Allan to play for some unexplained reason, and the absence from the team of one of
their strongest, Mr G. P. Robertson; adde* to this, they appear to have been playing iit the second innings with ten men, Jfr Murphy being marked absent. It is a mat ter of congratulation amongst cricketers tha* at last New South Wales has a fair show o£ winning a match againsfc Victoria-, as in the few last past years the matches have been** one-sided tbat fears were entertained they would fall through. *
