Wellington, January 6th. Arrangements have been made with the New Zealand Company for the conveyance of the prize firing representatives from Port Chalmers and intermediate ports to Manukau and hack, one of the vessels leaving Port Chalmers on the loth January, Lyttelton 17th, Wellington 19th, Picton 19th, Nelson 21st, Taranaki 22ad, arriving in Manukau on the 23rd inst. The Company agreed to take extra representatives at the same rate a3 those for whom passages are paid by Government—viz., 10 per cent, off the usual return-ticket fares. j Auckland, January 6th. In the Supreme Court, Henry Devoy, several times previously convicted, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment, for horse stealing. Thomas Morris, for forging an order, was sentenced to two years. George Moss, for illegally pawning, received a sentence of nine months. The Southern mails were shipped aboard the Wellington. The agents of the A.S.N. Co. here have received definite information that the present arrangement for the Californian service will continue six months longer. Mr Hugh George, manager of the Melbourne Argus, will probably accompany the Rev. Charles Clark to New Zealand, as companion on his lecturing tour. Grahamstown, January 6th. The Mayor has called a public meeting, to consider the best means of receiving the Volunteer representatives. The Friendly Societies propose to hold a united demonstration on the arrival of the "Volunteers from the South. New Plymouth, January 6th. The quarter's Customs returns show an increase of £556. Major Atkinson will leave for Wellington about the llth inst. Hokitika, January 6th. Arrived. — Maori, from Dunedin, via Martin's Bay. Numerous applications have been made to the Provincial Government by persons desirous of taking up land nnder the special settlement regulations relating to Jackson's Bay. Several applicants proceed to the settlement by the steamer Waipara next | week. There is considerably enquiry for land in the southern part of the Province. Christchttech, January 6th. : At the criminal sessions, Geo. W. Price, convicted of robbery from the person, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, j Alexander Clarke, for ail unnatural offence received a sentence of ten years', and for an ' indecent assault three years' imprisonment.
