UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO.

At a meeting of the Council oi the University of Otago, held yesterday, the following resolutions were agreed to:— —-'■' That in-order to admit of a> University Examination of schools and classesJn Educational establishments, with a view of granting certificates of proficiency, not included in those connected with matriculation and education,! this University is willing to adopt » course similar to that which prevails in Oxford and Cambridge for granting such* certificates, with such, modifications as^ may tut deemed necessary." - • - s«* "That as ifc is desirable to have' the University Buildings, Professors' residence, and accommodation for students frdm the country districts .and ' other Provinces, as aompleta and compact as circumstances may admit-, with sufficient space for recreation—(ij.)1 Itie resolved, that tf-e concurrence- of the Superintendent and Executive Government he obtained, in accordance with the Ist clause of 'The University of Ofcago Ordinance, 1869^* to the disposal of the present-University Buildings and site, should the Government grant the Council1 another' site'in" a favourable situation, and should1 the proceeds; of the sale be sufficient to erect a more commodious and eligible building. (2.) That should, such concurrence be procured, the- Finance Committee be requested to obtain from .the Provincial Government an assurance thafc. they will grant the University some ten acres of land of the Cemetery Reserve granted to the Superintendent; in 1862; should the University be in a position, to assure the Government that by the sale of the existing building and site they would be prepared and able to carry out me previous
