The h.h. Maori sailed for Lyttelton, rid in t' rmediate ports, last evening.

The ship Wild Deer is now about hal loaded with cargo for London.

Tho ship Ironsides during the late fine weather Ikik made good progress in the discharge of her inward London cargo. The schooner Aurora, with a cargo of timber, beat up yesterday afternoon, and anchored close to tin; Port Chalmers jetty. The brig Royal Alice, from port unknown, passed the Heads bound to the northward at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. She is supposed to bo from Newcastle, with coal for Lyttelton.

TERRIBLE EXPLOSION OF KEROSENE AT SEA.

(North lir'dtxh Mall.)

Intelligence received in Liverpool from Bermuda Htaten that on this evening of the 19th March a light was discovered about tight miles from thu harbour, evidently proceeding from a burning ship, and Mr Fowler, the superintendent of pilots at Bermuda, at once proceeded to the scene of the lire in a tug. When within gunshot of the vcHaul, the air was heated by the wide-spreading flames, and at 100 feet the heat was insufferable, as the ship "was completely enveloped in flames. At lirst it w.us feared that all on board had perished, but a boat hailed the tug from off tho starboard bow, and it at once went to the OMHistauce of those in the boat. There were seven men in it, two of whom were so severely burnt as to be incapable of moving, but the fnllowiug .statement was made by Mr Fowler : —The banjue Niinrod, Captain Hartley, left St. John, JO., on the Ist of March, bound to tho West Jndia Islands with a cargo of kerosene and naphtha, barrelled salmon, &c. Several days after leaving port the Nimrofl experienced very boisterous weather, and on tho 13th March she lost some spans and a quantity of canvas during a terrific gale when about 300 miles fror.i Bermuda. On the 17th it was found that the water on board was unfit for use, several of the men having been attacked with diarrhoea from using it, and the Captain at once bore tip fur Bermuda for a fresh supply. At 4 o'clock on the afternoon of tho Hlth P> rmuda was sighted, and shortly afterwards a loud and sudden report was heard aft, and m the next moment flames were bursting through tho rent timbers of tho cabin deck. Boom after boom followed the first report like continued cannonading, and tho h'ro increased rapidly, causing tho greatest consternation amongst those- who were on the forward part of the vessel, and their first effort was to cast away the j'.tllyhoat, which was lashed to the foroiiuteh. Tho two men who were so severely burnt ran towards tho cabin with the determination of rescuing Mrs and Miss Bartlov, tho captain's wife and daughter. After th-"! boat was launched the two men •were dragged from the flames into the boat, which h;id scarcely proceeded 50 yards when a terrific explosion occurred amidships, and high flames and dense suffocating smoke rose over the wreck on all sides. It was then found that eleven persons were missing, viz. :--Capta"* ?, artle >"' ™f e fc and daughter; Mr Walter Carson chief officer; Mr Gus Bartley (son of tho captain), second officer; and six seamen, Smed Fritz, Kent, Harr.it, Toole, Hickey

lay, being one of the target timl>cr merchants in Xorth Ajnarica, and Mrs Hartley, who met with such ft terrible fate, was accompanying her daughter, who»« ill-health uhe thought the mild climate of the West Indies would restore.
