RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, 31st January. (Before T. Tayler, Esq., andDr O'Donoghue, " J.P.'e) MERCHANT SHIPPING CASE. Henry Taylor, an articled seaman, laid an information against Captain Thompson, of the barque [Memento, that he was indebted to the informant for the sum of L4B for wages earned on board the said barque, and that the period of engagement had terminated. Mr Mansford appeared for plaintiff, and after evidence pro and con, the Bench gave judgment for plaintiff for 132 9s, with costs. Civiii Case.—Ferguson v. Miller was a case wherein, plaintiff sought to r racover L2O damages from defendant, caused through the trespass of the latter's cattle, whereby crops were destroyed. Mr Stewart for plaintiff, and Mr Mansford for defendant. A number of witnesses were examined, and after the evidence was adduced the Bench retired for ten minutes, to consider their verdict. On returning into Court, judgment was given for defendant, with costs, including LI Is professional costs. The1 plaintiff, through Mr Stewart, gave notice of appeal.
