Poisoning by a Paper-Collar.—Dr Van der Weydo, Professor of Chemistry and Toxicology in tho New York Medical College, reports in tho P/iilruldphia Medical Reporter a cjso of poisoning of a child, who had oaten the greater part of a piper collar which had been thrown away; a gentle emetic and some othor remedies serving to remove the poison, caused tho symptoms.to subside in not Xtn, however, than about forty hours. When these collars are chemically examined, some aro found to be covered with zinc-white (oxide of zinc), and others with powdered heavy spar (sulphate of baryta) ; both substances are more or lees poisonous ; the zinc preparations, however, by their emetic properties, arc their own ant dotes, and whim we aro certa'n that we have to do with nothing else, an eznotic is unnecessary, and warm water, with sorao bnttor to promote tho vomiting, is all that is required. The preparations of barium, however, are mostly poisonous, aud never cause vomiting, except in largo doses, when also convulsions aud other alarming symptoms Appear.
