CITY COMMISSIONERS.

The weekly meeting of the City Commissioners was held yesterday forenoon, at the offices, Frinces.street South. Mr Forman presided ) and the other Commissioners, Messrs J. Grey and E. Chalmer, were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter from the Secretary to the Atbenzeum was read, expressing the regret of the Committee that the Commissioners bad refrained from expressing an opinion upon the application for the transfer of the lease [of the Town Board section in Manse street and High street,, on part of which the Institution stands], and requesting that the Commissioners would strongly urge upon their successors the claims of the Institution in the matter. The letter was referred, to the City Council. Mr P. W. Hutton asked that something should he at once done to improve the drainage of Market street. The City Engiueer stated that an expenditure of L 8 or LlO would enable the necessary pipes, to be obtained and the work to be done; and he was authorised to expend that sum for the purpose. Mr .T"mes Smith wrote respecting the work already done in improving Albany street west, the cost incurred by the residents, and the further work required. The letter was referred to the Council. Mr Alexander Willis, one of the wardens of All Saints' Church, wrote asking that a lamp should be placed at the corner of St David street and Cumberland street; and it was ordered that one should be so placed, and another at the corner of Dundas street and Cumberland street. Mr A. Wilson win authorised to construct a crossing in Dundas street and Great King street, subject to the usual conditions. Mr F. 11. Evan3 applied to hive his name put on the roll for Bell Ward. It was decided that this could not be done, as Mr Evans had not held his qualification for a sufficient period. A letter, dated the 24th inst., from the Provincial Secretary, was read, agreeing thit certain debts of the late Town Board, amounting to L 493 13s Id, should be charged against the balance remaining in the hands of the Government, out of the L.35,000 loan.
