Tuesday Evening.

The late bad weather has had the eibct of raising the rates of up-country cartage, and in consequence the execution of orders hns been considerably restricted during the last few days. Still business continues steady.

Ths English advices by the mail just to hand tend to encourage the hope that we are likely to see prices rather better for most articles shortly. The high pries of money at home is having its usual effect ia curtailing the Dhipraeut-3 to all the Australian markets, and this diminution is very marked as regards Otago.

Flour. —This article maintains its prioa of L 34 to L 35 per ton, owing to the continued absence of suppliea. The damaged flour, ex Scotia, was sold at auction to day for behoof of whom it may concern, and brought in one lot Lls per ton, which wa3 thought a high price considering how badly damaged it appeared to be.

We have been favored with the perusal of San Francisco advices to 2nd April, and extract the following :—

" The favorable change in the weather noted in our last circular was of short duration, and though we have had some additional showers, the cold north wind which set in immediately after the rain has had a most injurious effect. Even with the most favorable weather till harvest time we can no longer expect a fair average crop of either wheat or feed grains. How great the deficit will ultimately prove to be depends altogether on the state of weather till the grain has fully ripened. Two vessels are now loading wheat and flour for Auckland, New Zealand. No charters have been lately made for Australia." The following is Messrs Stable, Straker aud Co.'s Report:— ' Lohdsn, 15th April, 1863. ( . Having regard to the very moderate nature of the- returns we have laid before our subscribers for the first two months of the year, we have come cause to congratulate them on the fact that the increase we quote upon last month is no greater than we now show. Our gross corrected value to all parts {excluding New Zealand) for February-March 19 1,514,171, whilst for the month of March-April, now under notice, we quote 1660,291 as the aggregate value, the increase being L 146.820 upon the very diminished totals of previous mouth. The gross exports of British, goods for the first quarter of the year

I endine 6th April is L 1.791,418, whilst m the same period of 1863 they were L 2,115,428 (see Circular No. 121), and LI 768.938 in 1852. We are, therefore, about L 400.000 below the export of last year at similar date. Melbourne.—To this port our accounts for the past month show an increase of LI 19,094, the relative totals beinp L 808.601 against L 248.907. A. genera! advance is apparent in the whole of our columns devoted to fine goods. Hardware, of most descriptions, rule as before^ la our metal page vre quote a decrease in bar iron and tin plates, but all other metais and nails are at enhanced figure?. In oils, rape oil, which has gone to about one-half the extent of previous month, iumishes the only instance of a decline; ether oils (particularly linseed) with turps, paint 3 glass, and earthenware having found favor with shippers. Woolpp.cks, bushel bags, canvas, and cordape are in good supply. Tobacco ■ has gone forward in very heavy quantities i Brandy doabl^s last months quotations, but of other spirits, ttie totals are very moderate. Wines of both decriptions, although in advance, are not in excessive supply. Beers, both in bulk and glass, are also increased. Batter is represented by- a solitary, shipment of fifty firkins. Bacon and hams are equivalent to last month. Malt has sympathised with thimprovecl value on the other side by nearly trebling last month's figures. _ Some goo< parcels of vinegar have gone, and in tetiep-al, all grocery and provision items may be quoted at an advance, the same remark applying to candles, both British and Foreign, "l'l.e £arah Ann cleared from Liverpool on the 9?b, with 643 to-s coals, having no other cargo on board. Thft Lady Egidh cleared from Glasgow on the 22nd, but was immediately laid on at Greenock whence she had not cleared at our date of closing. New Zwalawd.—Our present Circular era-' bracks 16 clearances, of which 3 are for Auckland, valued at L 71,563, and 1 for Otago, valu* L 30.194. The gross value for New Zealand is L 145.460, against L136,072in preceeding month, showing ,aif increase of 19388. The aggregate values for the first ti ree months of the year are L42d,104r, whilst for the same period in 1863 they were L 362 288, the increase in the present yrar being 164,866. The Trinculo cleared from Liverpool for Auckland on the 16th ult., but has gone round to Leith to complete.
