A New Pass Aoboss the Andes.—ln the City Article of the " Times" it is stated, that by the.advices from Buenos Ayre3 on Wednesday, it appears that the topic which Had attracted^ attention there since the last mail consisted in the alleged discovery of anew pass across the Ande?, which may have a great: effect in facilitating the traffic from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The pass is situated to the south of ■ the city of Mendoza, and 19 in the same latitnde as Buenos Ayres. It is affirmed that the Andes here diminish into insignificant, hills, and that the route & throughout practicable, for wheeled vehicles, with the exception of about half a mile, where a road wosld have to be ma^e.^ Supposing the discovery t j be corroborated, it will materially alter the direction and increase the value and prospects of the Rosario and Cordova Railroad lately conceded to Mr Wbeelwr!gh^. which would then probably be directed so as to communicate ultimately with the Santiaeo and Valparaiso Railway, instead of the Copiapx " From Cordova to Mendoza and on to the Andes, Mr Wheelwright's line." it! is said, " would be practically on a dew! level, and would pass through a rich and fertile country, whilethe distance would be much less than by tho Copiapb route." On the whole, the commercial interest of the question is extremely great, since the initerchange of pro lusts between Valparaisj and Buenos Ayres would be very larere were it not for the difficulties of the transit. The practicability of the roal may moreover henceforth create an entirely new direction for passenger and other communication from Europe to the Southern Pacific.
