In Sugar, the arrivals were extensive. The wool sales which commenced on the 30fch June., show an improvement and exhibited a remarkable uniformity of prices. Foreign buyers contributed chiefly to sustain prices, and it was the prevailing opinion priess at subsequent sales would be fully sustained vibh probably an enhanced value. .Serious losses would accrue to speculators in this hemisphere wha h.-sve made their returns at maximum prices. The arriv ;ls from New Zealand amounted to 6917 bales. The exports.are By no means excessive for our requirements, if we are leniently dealt with, by Melbourne merchants. The Home Ncxos announces further clearances for the colony, and amongst th:-rn we notice by the Mallard, lhidbrook, Sir Ralph Abercrorabie, and. Mataura, exports of upwards of 1,200 hogsheads beer, in bulk, and 700 packages beer, in gla<s. ■' : v '- Butter.—About 320 firkins.

The comparative statement showing the total of exports to New Zealand, for the month ending, June 12th, 1882, and 1863, of some of the leading 'articles is as follows :— 1852 1863 Ale and Beer (bulk) 929 lihds .. 2122hhds , „ „ glass !2-3pkg3 ... :■ 1,373 pkjjs Barley and Malt ... 920 brls .. 6,146 brls Slates ... .. . — .. 10,300 ~ i Gunpowder .. — ... 15 2501ba ' Hardware. ... £4,370 .. £9,240 Haberdashery .. £6,095 ... £12,302 Oils ... .. 2,092 gals ... 4.837 gals , Bfandy ..; ... 4,3U gals ... 26 572 „ -Geneva ... ... 16,748 „ ... 6,108.,, Rum ■.. .;. 4.845 „ ... 5,594 „ ! British .. .. 3,325 „ ... 3,130 , Tobacco and Cigars 7,959 lbs ... 29,796 lbs From the foregoing, it will be observed that shipments of certain classes of good 3 have bsen heavy, whilst no less than eight ships are now on the berth in London for this port, and one at the Clyde, without including Southland's, Some suspensions and assignments have occurred in Melbourne, affecting one, if not more of the recent arrivals here. The reports without doubt are correct, but not calculated to affect the credit of the city.
