THE Classes of the Institute will be opened on Thursday, the Ist of May, at 7 o'clock p.m., in the Athenaeum Building, High-street. Classes are formed in Arithmetic Writing Geography Book-keeping And Mathematics. Arrangements have been made for commencing classes in other elementary subjects at once. Respecting Deserter irom the Army and Navy. Attorney-General's Office, Auckland, sth April, 1862. FREQUENT instances having occurred of De sertion from Her Majesty's Sea and Lan Forces in this Colony, Notice is hereby grren, that the most rigorous proceedings will be taken against any person enticing away, harboring, concealing, or employing Deserters. The enactments relating to the above ofience are subjoined for information. FRANCIS D. FENTON, Assistant Law Officer. CLAUSES OF IMPERIAL ACTS RELATING TO DESERTERS. Naval Desertioh. 10 and 11 Viet., chap. 62, sec,. 11. And be it enacted, That every person who, words or any other means whatsoever, shall persuade any person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or improperly absent himself from his duty, shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty pounds for every such act; and every person who shiul assist or procure and person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or improperly absent himself from his duty ; or shall conceal employ, or continue to employ any person belonging to Her Majesty's Navy, who shall be a deserter, or improperly absent from his duty, knowing him to be mch a desertor, or so improperly absent, shall forfeit and pay the sum of thirty pounds for every such assistance, procurement, concealment, employment, or ontinning of employment, as aforesaid. 1' Marine Desertion. 21 Viet., cap. 7, sec. 54. " Any person who shall, in any part of Her Majes y's dominions, by words or any other means whatsoever, directly or indirectly, procure any Marine to :esert; or shall by words or by any other means whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Marine to desert; and any person who, knowing that Marine is about to desert, shall aid or assist him deserting; or, knowing any Marine to be a deserter "hall conceal such deserter, or aid or assist such feserter in concealing himself, or aid or assist in hs rescue, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to punished by fine or imprisonment, or both, as Court be which such conviction shall take place may adjudge.
