RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Friday, MAY 16, 1862.

Samuel Bradley, a private of the 70th Regiment, was brought, upon oil remand, charged, on the information of Detective Tuckwell, witlr having stolen £18 in money, 2 colored shirts, anil 1 flannel Gnern-' sey, the property of Andrew Haydon, of Tokomairiro. ' Andrew Haydon, on being swornj said, thjit on the 9th inst. he pave information to the police that he had been robbed of some money and clothing by a soldier. .He could not know the soldier again, nor did lie know the prisoner. The clothes produced were similar to some he bought in. the Arcade, but he could not identify them. '

AVoolfe Isaacs, n dealer in the 'Arcade, stated Hint he knew botli the prosecutor and the accuse I. They were both in his shop together between 7 and 8 oVlck on Friday last. On the Friday niirh* the prisoner to ik up the prosecutor's bundle, an.l walke.l away with it, upon whii-h witness and thi! prosecutor followcd him, but could not see him. Prosecutor stated there was £17 in money in the bundle. Cross-exam inpd by prisoner: The accused had a bundle with him when he entered the shop, and took the same bundle aw >y. Detective Tuckwi-ll deposed to having arrested the accused at fh« harracks, . aud of Imviiisr found_ the clothes produced on the bed of the prisoner. When he found the prisoner he w;is drunk. -There was no money found on him. The magistrate acquitted thp prisoner. Leaviyo rionsus in the Public Streets. —The following pt rson charged with this offence in contravention of the 20th section of the Constabulary Force Ordinance, 1849, were cautioned and discharged upon payment of costs—Robert M'Allister, Daniel O'Neill, Charles Aanes, Samuel Ilanar. DisTuuniNo the Peace.—Catherine Norton, tiliaii Irish Kate, was for this offence, fined 10s and costs, and in default, committed to prison for two days. Cattle Trespass.—Edward Amies was fined 20* and costs, for allowing two horses to stray in the limits, of'the'city, contrary to the Towns' Cuttle Trespass Ordinance. 18T)8. Drunk. —John Galoghly was charged by sergeant Burns with having been drunk in a public street, on the 15th instant. The accused had been admitted to bail, and was now fine.l 20.-S., or in default committed to 48 hours' imprisonment with hard labor. Absconding.—James Jeffrey was brought up on warrant to answer an information, charging him with absconding from the jurisdiction of the Insolvent Court ftt Gcelmig, in Victoria. The Bench discharged the accused,, upon the rule that it had no jurisdiction to deal with the case.
