To the Editor of the DILY TIMES.

g n!] —Observing that an advertisement in one of the Dunedin papers offers as an inducement to the pu blk\ that they can be well accommodated at the Waipori Accommodation House, we are sorry to say that on our arrival there on Thursday evening last, at about lndf-pist four in .the afternoon, drenched through with wet, after a journey of about eighteen miles from Gabriel's Gully, we asked first if we could get a bed for the night: wo were told they had no beds, but wo could get a couple of blankets. We then asked if we could get any food. Of course, being wet and cold, we natui-ally supposed we could get something warm to-eat. We were told that we could not g-et boiling water to make a little tea in less than ■three Lours, -and-that they had no other food except biscuit and cheese, which we were obliged to partake of, although observing fresh mutton, which we offered to cook for ourselves, and pay them any charge they chose to make. We were then obliged to proceed some t .venty miles farther, to the West Taieri—which was the next nearest accommodation house—where we arrived about nine o'clock in the evening, and very much exhausted. Being on horseback, wo passed many on the way, who informed us that they had received the same treatment as ourselves, and were obliged-to proceed on; some of whom have since informed iis that from exhaustion they could not gain the next accommodation house, and had to put up on the road side.

On 1 lie Sunday previous we observed a man lying dead oi the road-side, about half way from said accommodation house and Gabriel's Gully—caused, as is supposed, from exhaustion, although we were not nware in which direction he had been proceeding. Wo regret that such shameful treatment should be affords 1 to travellers as we and others received at the Waipori Accommodation House, which is the only accomiiiodationhouse on the road between the West Taieri and Gabriel's Gully, a distance of nearly forty 'miles. . .

It is very desirable that the authorities should investigate the above matter, and see that travellers nil1 better cared for, otherwise many others may share the same fate as the above.

We are, yours truly, Henry Graham, John Trewbbk.
