SEPARATOR BUTTER.

IMPORTANT PHASE OF THE SUBSIDY.

By Telegraph.

(Special to the Oamaru Mail.) WELLINGTON, October rj. Mr R. Masters, tile member for Stratford, called the Prime Minister's attention to an important phase of the butter subsidy question. He asked if provision is being made for small farmers in the bnekblocks where there are no dairy factories. Would they secure the same subsidy as was bejng paid to other producers? Were tiiey entitled to sixpence a pound subsidy on separator butter? Mr Massey replied that lie could not give a definite answer immediately, blithe added: I can appreciate the point raised. Ido think that the small people in the out districts, not within reach of a creamery or dairy factory, require some encouragement. These are the people on whom the country will have to depend for part of its butter supply in the years to come. I would like to put them in the same position as factory suppliers. But I will have inquiries made as to the quantity of their output and the quality —whether it is fit for export. I will let the House know the result of my inquiries later.
