OAMARU BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
The Beautifying Society held its monthlv meeting last evening, Mr 11; Milligan presiding. There was also present" Mesdames McDouall, Williams, Forrester, Dr Whitton, and Messrs L. E. Haines, H. J. White, C. H. Swinard, G. P. Mollison, J. Rodman, and C. H. Church. _ After discussion it was resolved that the work of the Society for the l year be to plant the eastern bank of upper Severn street with roses and the opposite bank with oaks; form a- pathway in front of Scott Memorial m Arun street., to' connect with existing path; also to: slope off the bank and plant with creepers, the Council to be asked to contribute to the cost; plant the lower part- of the bank in Greta street with veronicas and the zig-zag jn barberry shrubs. The beautifying of Severn street at the junction with Wansbeck street was brought up by |he Chairman, and after a discussion it. was resolved to hold the matter over until it was decided whether or not the; site would be needed for a soldiers' memorial. It was decided to procure trees to be placed in the nursery for the flouting of Dee street next year. Mr White was authorised to procure trees for the nursery, to the value of £7. •It was decided to replace the few soldiers' memorial oaks that have died.
Accounts totalling £2 16s 6d "were pa.sscd for payment.
