(Per Press Association.) ! CHRISTCHTJROH, April 26. A youth named Norman Hnia Lyons. 17 yeans of age. died in the municipal tepid baths on Saturday. He had been playing hockey in the afternoon prior to going for a swim. At the inquest a verdict that death was due to heart failure was returned. The shortage of cement in Canterbury is becoming exceedingly acute, and many- essential public and private works are being held up. In consequence the organiser of the Canter'niry Progress League has telegraphed the* position to the Secretary of the Board of Trade. Wellington. DUXEDIN April 26. Arthur Lord was fined £IOO at the Court to-day for street betting. The Magistrate, Mr Bartholomew, in inflicting the maximum monetary penalty, said that the bookmaking profession .seemed to be so. lucrative that it was <|Uestionable if even a substantial penalty was much of a deterrent. • ' STRATFORD, April 20.
