SHEARING RECORDS.

The tally of four men for one day, put up at Messrs W. and F. Franklin's shed at Maugatima last season,-was 1212 sheep, and this is regarded as probably a world's'-record for nine hours' machine shearing. The individual tallies were: — Wi Yella 361, G. Stewart 335, S. Burkenshaw 212. The sheep were mostly lambs, with a fair proportion of ewes. W. Yella is a resident of Matamau, "being a, New Zeajander of Dalmation >parentage, and has previously held the world's, record. Last year, when shearing for Mr-R. B. Totnmn, of Omatane. on the Main Trunk, he put up a iccoi'd of 347 Romneys in nine hours, and then lost ten minutes in the afternoon. Six of-the men on the day .Yella broke the record last year put through 1687 ?heop and. on. the following day their tally was 1705. For many years the world's shearing record was held uy a Maori shearer. Rajhauea. who about 14 years ago put thiough 332 Romneys in the day. Thi* record remain id until Yella broke it two years ago with 339 Romneys. and last year further extended it to 347.
