A fatality occurred to-day near Awapuni racecourse, when a single man, named Neil Neilson, of Shannon, was killed bv p racehorse. Neilson was ruling a motor-cycle, and had to pass a racehorse, ridden by a lad. 'lhe_ horse shied and lashed out. kicking Neilson on the forehead .and inflicting a deep gash, from which he almost immediately expired.

WKSTPOPT. April 21. Mr H. E. Holland, M.P. for Buller. delivered an address on the Parliamentary trip to Samoa before a fairly large -lathering in the Theatre Royal to-night. At the conclusion of the address it was unanimously resolved: "That this meeting of citizens of "Westport endorsed the action of Mr Holland. M.P. for Buller, in making independent investigations in Samoa and Fiji, and also places on record its hearty approval of the policy of the New Zealand Labor Party in opposing the continuance of the indentured Chinese or other coolie labor in "Western Samoa."'

TE AWAMUTC, April 22. The election of a Railway Board to undertake the construction of a standard gauge railway between Te Awainutu and Putaruru, having connection with the Main Trunk and with Rotorua line by a shorter route, took place yesterday. There were ten candidates. This is the first railway board elected under the Local Railways Act in the Dominion.
