Banks said the highest compliment paid by the Hon. \\. D. S. MaeDonald at Kaikotira. when .ie said that Sir .lames Allen as l)ufen> Minister had made fewer mistakethan anv Defence Minister in the Empire. That was n great compliment from a political opponent. Mr D. Jones. M.P.. said that :.t an afternoon tea given on Tuesday by the Canterbury member- of Parliament to Sir James Alien, it was stated that fc-tr James was the first High Commissioner who could be said to be representative of both parties in Parliament, and that he could go Home confident ot possessing the full support of both sides of the House. That was a striking testimony respecting a man like Sir James, who had been in politics for 30 Years.
