(Per. Press Association.) " Wellington, January 10.: The Minister of Internal Affairs; a;nnounced to-day that a Royal Commission had been appointed', consisting of I lis Honor Mr Justice Hoskin-g. (chairman), Mr W. Milno (Oamaru), and: Mr C. F. Thomas (Auckland), to inquire int-o the general effect of the leasing powers enjoyed /by borough and city councils, and whether the same are in the best interests of the corporations" concerned; -whether the system, of valuations prescribed by section 137 of the Municipal Corporations Act was satisfactory in implication, and if not alterations should =be made. Tlie Commission is returnable not later than the Ist March.
