The Emperor Franz Josef, in a letter to his people, reminds them that they have shared his sorrows and joys for 65 years. He puts trust in tlieir deep love for him. and declares that the fanaticism of a small band of misguided men eaunot shake his house. He adds: "This fresh and painful trial which God's unfathomable decree has imposed upon me and. mine will strengthen me ,in illy resolve to follow the way I know to be right."
