A BOY BURGLAR.
SPENDS PROCEEDS 7 ON THE PICTURES. (Lyttelton.. Jimes.) A boy of eleven years appeared at the Juvenile Court-on—Saturday, and was charged before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., that between May 15 and 22, at Christehurch. he broke and entered the dwelling of Harriet Ann Neate and stole a lady's watch., a. manicure set and os in nionev, the total value being £3 las. Chief Detective Bishop: putting in a nail file: That is all that is left of the manicure set. Mr Bailey (to the boy): What did you do with the money? The Bov: Spent it on pictures. Mr Rule: The boy has a mania for pictures. « The mother of the lad said that she had endeavored to control .the boy and he had been in bed every night by a quarter to seven. The-trouble had occurred after school. The boy admitted having broken into a shop on Good Friday. The Mother: When.he started to get dishonest I used to thrash "him. bnt the neighbors climbed up over the fence and accused me of- cruelly ill-treating him. Vet I only used a parcels strap, an inch across. You see. I have only a small yard, and the neighbors interfere when I take him in hand. ' The boy was ordered' to report himself dailv to Mr Rule for a year, and the mother was ordered to refund the ralue of the stolen articles.
