(Pek Pkess Association*."; ■;; Christchuieh. June 9. The Hon. H. G. Ell, PostmasterGeneral, arrived' in Cliri'stelmreh this morning. Mr Ell received several pri-va-to|7, deputations in the provincial Chambers. • . A statement- regaiding wireless telegraphy in New -Zealand was made to a reporter by Mr Ell, who said the erection of stations-at Ti-nakori Rifts (Wellington), St. Helier's Bay (Auckland), and Awanui (in the far north) were being pushed on. The Department was making the erect-ion of these stations a matter of urgency, ucognising their value- to the people travelling by sea.. Tho'New .Zealand coastline was a dangerous one .ami. the Department had recognised its obligations in the matter by giving instructions for every expedition to be used in the establishment of stations. The existing station in the tower of the Wellington Post Office had proved a ve;y great convenience to shipping, even though it was not in. a suitable -position to establish communication, over a'wide range. Nothing was being done in regard to the New .Brighton station at present. The Postmaster-General indicated plainly that the Department had no intention, .of licensing private experimental stations in New Zealand. Ho pointed out that as messages had to bo picked up it was absolutely necessary that there- should" be only one controlling authority. Australia-'had put its foot down'on private wireless stations, aaid America had' re'eently'durnished' an instance; of ■ the confusion which- -those private stations caused'X- The Department, in the public interest, could hot give concessions to private stations-"-
