' Wellington, October 20. i The Bill providing for tlie allocation of £60,000, -promised by the Minister for Railways to the second division 1 employees of the Railway Department, was introduced to-day by Governor's Message and read a first £ime. Shunters are divided into two classes with minimum pay of 10s 6d per day for class one (an increase of Is), maximum lis, and class two, minimum. 9s 6d, maximum Is as at present paid in grade 1. . . Leading tradesmen in the locomotive department are granted an increase of 6d per day (minimum 12s 6d, maximum 13s) in class one, and 6d extra in class two (maximum 12s) and other leading hands (maximum lis fid). Increases of 6d per day are also grariced to the following employees — Crane drivers (grades 1 and 2), machinists, tradesmen, strikers, and forgemen (except juniors) in locomotive department, leading laborers (maximum 8s 6d), engine drivers and night foremen of cleaners of the first and second grades, firemen of both grades, washout men, crane drivers, shop engineers, gasmen of grades one and two, traui examiners, and lifters (grade 2), leading ' (maintenance department; sub-classes 1 and 2, leading painters and plumbers (sub-class 3), masons and bricklayers, fitters, blacksmiths, carpenters, painters and plumbers (sub-class 3), masons and bricklayers, fitters, blacksmiths, carpenters, painters and plumbers (sub-class 5, both grades), bridgemen, donkey engine drivers, crane drivers, and shop engineers, the special hands (strikers).
