; (Per I'iiess Aks'ociation.) .. Waihi, , May 31. During a concert.last night, attended by 1200 residents, the Mayor referred to a statement made "by Mr Poole; M.P.. at- a no-license rally, in- Invercargill that at one time'it .was unsafe .for women to walk the streets of; Waihi at night. , - ' ■'

"The Mayor emphatically cleuied the allegation, and moved - : "That this meeting enter an emphatic protest against Mr Poole's unjustifiable remarks." The motion was carried unanimously with great applause.
