CONCERT AT AWAMOKO.

On Friday evening a most .successful concert ivas held in tile Annioko Hnll in aid of the school funds. The building was packed to the door, niiuiv visitors being present irom other districts. T'ne event "'its long anticipated with pleasure. The Committee had great difficulty.in fjcettjup; up their as most of the local talent w.-ro indisposed through colds .and various other ailments, but they are to be complimented on the quality of the pro"rammo that was nevertheless produced. At about 8.30 the Chairman (Mr J. King) stepped on to tlie platform, made' a few brief remarks, and called lor the first item. The iollowin" were the performers for the evenin": Mrs Irwin. Mrs Hedges, Misses Ross. Stevens. Foley, and Rodders, Messrs A. C. Buist. jus. Aitchison, E. Hedges, Wilson, Hartstongc, Master Eraiik Brcmner, and several of the school children (junior and senior). All the performers were at their best. Mr A. C. Buist gave two bagpipe .selections, which were quite ■ a novelty at Awamoko. That gentleman had quite an exciting experience in connection with his performance. All his necessary wearing apparel and bagpipes were to be sent by rail, but on arrival of the train it was found that. nothing had arrived. Mr buist. being in the locality, was informed at a late hour, and then rode to Oamaru on his motor cycle, procured his outfit, and proceeded back to Awamoko in time for the first part of the programme. At the conclusion of the concert, the Chairman thanked the performer's for their kindness in helping to make the concert such a success; also -all .those who so kindly assisted in'any- way. "Afterthe.refreshments were handed round to nil present, dancing was indulged in for a few hours to the strains of the piano,. Miss' Rodgers (Oamaru) being the obliging musician, whilst air H. Waters apted as M.C. It may also be, mentioned that Master F. Bremner.'danced a Highland fling to the.strains,of .the piano, kindly, playedby Mrs- Ja's. King, and that the school children were under the leadership of their teacher," Miss' Pryde, who had taken much .pains- in getting them up to such a high standard of proficiency.
