PRIZE FIGHTING.
LANG v. LESTER. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.
(Per Pkess Association.) Sydney, May 13. There was a great crowd at the Stadium to witness, the Lang-Lester fight, which proved inconclusive. Five solid rounds were fought, and towards the close of the sixth the American was delivering heavy body blows, and landed one on the Australian's defending elbow. Lester was suffering pain from the blow, the hand being partially crippled. Lester turned back from his opponent, and started 1 to walk to the middle of the ring. Lang followed, and was preparing to deliver a blow when the American dropped on his knee. The referee ("Snowy" Baker) thereupon disqualified Lester for dropping without receiving a blow, and proclaimed Lang the victor. Lester showed himself to be a willing punishing fighter, but wanting in skill, Lang out-pointing him in every round. A doctor examined Lester, and stated that the blow had driven the' circumflex nerve of the shoulder against the bone, causing intense pain. Lester protested that he was ignorant of the rule under which he was disqualified, for thev were allowed hi America to do as 1 he did. He was keen for another match.
