GRANK BLIGHT SPECIFIC BY MISTAKE.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, May 8. Mrs Maginnity, of Karori, who d'ed on Sunday through taking a nicotine preparation for spraying rose bushes in mistake for medicine, .was the widow of the late John Maginnity, for many years in business in Wellington as a. wine and spirit merchant. Her eldest son (John Maginnity) left for San Francisco some years ago, and. is now a bank officer in America. The only other son (Ernest Maginnity) is in the Customs service in South Africa. Both sons arc married. The youngest daughter (Miss Etta Maginnity) was well known in Wellington in connection with amateur theatricals. She went Home to join the stage, and is now married and living in England. Another daughter is married to Mr Quirk, of the. head, office of the Department of Agriculture here. The eldest daughter (Miss Ida Maginnity) had been living with her mother at Karori.

Deceased took a prominent part in the work of the Catholic parish of Thorndon, and was generally esteemed and respected by . a large circle of friends and acquaintances. An inquiry into the cause of death was commenced this afternoon by Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., Coroner. Ida Maginnity gave evidence that she did not think that her mother knew the nicotine was poison About 11.30, when witness was in bed, she heard: her mother call out. Witness rushed to her, and her mother said, "Oh, Ida, I've taken the wrong mixture, and it has done for me. I can feel it." Witness gave her some brandy,. but she was dead when Dr Herbert arrived, a few minutes later. Mrs Clabburn, a neighbor, also gave evidence. The inquiry was then adjourned till to-morrow, when Dr Herbert's evidence will bo taken.
