Yet so meagre was the attendance at the opening lecture of the course last evening that a feeling that ] men and women do not recognise, as they should the importance of being able to properly treat cases of accident or sickness pending the arrival ot the doctors seems justified. The fee involved for the whole course of lectures is a very small one, while the knowledge gained may be worth more than can be estimated by a monetary value Last evening was the date set down for the opening of the women's nursing class, but so meagre was the attendance owing to a number- of intending members being unable to be present that a lecture was not warranted, and a postponement was made until next Tuesday evening. So badly are the potatoes ...affected that in many cases the waste necessitated by cutting amounts 50 per cent., and boardinghouse-keepers. would sooner pay a little ex-tra for potatoes from some outside clean district, than take the trouble with the locallygrown. Already one boardinghou.se-. keeper has placed an order for two tons of southern-grown, and outside grown potatoes are being retailed by green- . grocers and vegetable hawkers. .
