MILITARY TRAINING CAMP.

CPeb Press Association.) - - ' Wellington January 9.; Work started in earnest at the. mihV. tary-instruction camp, at Tauherenikau to-day, the various squads of subalterns and instructors being paraded in their respective marquees, where lecturettes on musketry and other elementary subjects were given. The camp was inspected by the Camp .Commandant, Colonel Heard, and the men were put through a course of drill during the afternoon. All the officers commanding the districts; will assemble at Tauherenikau on February 18th for two weeks' course of instruction. Major-General Godley will be in camp then. Lieut. H. E. Avery, of the D Battery, Wellington, hxis been appointed ah adjutant. - The New Zealand yearly quota of officers for instruction at the Camperleya staff college is*, two, ■ ari&j the officers.* commanding districts have been' asked-' by headquarters to call applications for candidates who desire to go Home for "the, course. The selection will be by competitive examination, and those who apply will have to study this year in order to sit- for. the qualifying examination.
