STRIKING VOTES. .(Per Press Association.) Wellington, December: 3. The Supplementary Estimates contain many interesting items, some of which are appended:— ;

—Coronation Conference. — i The Supplementary Estimates include £IOOO on account of Coronation expenses in New. Zealand, £4OO expenses in connection .with 1 the decease of King Edward VII. and the accession of King George V., £ISOO a grant to the Prime Minister for expenses of attending the Coronation and Imperial Conference, and £SOO for an official entertainment in London during the Coronation.

—Defence Items. — The Commandant of the New Zealand Defence Forces will receive a salary of £IOOO and house allowance of £2OO. He will be provided with a staff officer at £375.

To clear off the liabilities of the Horowhenua Mounted Rifle Corps (disbanded), a vote of £l2B was included in the Defence Estimates.

Expenses of military reviews during the .visit _of Field-Marshal Lord Kitchener absorbed a vote of £7400. —Festival of Empire.— The sum of £2500 is provided for a New Zealand representation in .the Festival of Empire in London next year. Votes. — The Education Department's votes include £575 for temperance wall sheets for use in the public schools. An additional £IOOO is provided for public libraries on the basis of voluntary contributions.

—Public Buildings.— To equip a safe deposit system in the Public Trust Office at Wellington £7OO is provided. There is a vote of £7OOO for new offices in Auckland.

To provide public buildings at Hokitika £IOOO is voted.

—Agricultural Department.— Experiments "in connection with bush sickness are to be continued by the Agricultural Department, which has a further vote of £4oo"for that purpose.

To equip the young men's, training quarters at the Ruakura Experimental Farm £ISOO is provided, and there is a vote of £325 for guaranteeing an experimental shipment of apples.

—Other Votes. — Wireless telegraphy is to. be installed on one of the Government steamers at a cost of £IOOO. An additional £4OO was voted, for the cost of the Amokura. £IOOO was voted for the renovation of old soldiers' graves. Government House, Auckland, is to come into use again. For refurnishing £ISOO is provided, and there is also a vote of £7OO for renovations and repairs.
