ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) i Palmerston North, July 27. The annual conference of delegates to the New Zealand Boxing Association was held at. the Mumcipal Hall last evening. Or. O'Brien, the president, was in the chair, and delegates were present from the Northern Association, Manawatu, Wellington, Hastings, Napier, Nelson, Wcstport, Christ-churc-h, Ashburton, Duncdin. ~ l The members of the Council present were- Messrs F. It was resolved that the amateur costume be the university costume as regards cut, and that it be of dark texture; that timekeepers and referees be separate officials; that applications for alterations of district boundaries by decided bv the Conference annually; that it be' the duty of all associations to sec that th'o floor covering at contests be sufficient to prevent accidents in accordance with the rules; that u be a recommendation to tho Council that the rule of hugging and holding be strictly enforced; that £SO and actual expenses be the maximum for professional championships. •_ It was resolved to recommend' local associations not to hold too many championships during the year. " Mr Johnston (Christchurch) moved as a re-commendation that the council tako steps to havo the amateur riues altered to read that an amateur is one who has never competed for a money prize, staked bet, or declared wager in a boxiiiir contest'; who has not knowingly or without protest competed with or against a professional for a prize oi anv description; who has never pursued or "assisted in the practice of boxing «s a means of livelihood or for pecuniary gain. The President agreed that the sport should be a law unto itself. It was resolved that the next NewZealand championships be held at Invercargill. It was resolved that the Conference continue in their endeavors to secure legal recognition of local associations. The question of reimbursing amateurs for out-of-pocket expenses in attending championships was discussed, and the ■minion was all in its favor. BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS. The New Zealand amateur boxing championships commenced this evening in v the Opera House before a splendid attendance; Mr I. i. Fake was referee, and the judges were Dr Napier M'Lean (Wellington) and Mr T. Sharp!in (Ashburton). There were some very fine contests and the audience was enthusiastic, Results — —Bantam. — B. Ellis (Wellington) beat C. Chisnall (Christchurch). S. Woods (Taranaki) beat S. Dawson (Manawatu). —Light-weight.— It. Simpson (Christchurch) beat L. Rosn (Auckland).
