THE SHEARERS' DISPUTE.
(Per Pbess Association;} Cliristcliurch, July 27. In the Arbitration Court this morning, Mr Pryor said the parties had agreed to request the Court to refer the Canterbury shearers' dispute to the Conciliation Commissioners, upon whose recommendations the Court could then be asked to frame an award. Judge Sim objected that the Court had no power to refer tlie dispute. .What he -eould do was to adjourn the hearing to enable the parties to take any steps they desired, and when the parties agreed they could come to the Court for an award. This 'course was followed, the case being' adjourned to be heard at Wellington/ in September, when the Wellington dispute will be also taken. Mr Pryor explained that arrangements with regard to a Dominion award were not quite complete, one North Island union of. sheep farmers having misunderstood his telegram. He was sure tlie difficulty 'would be overcome, however. Christchureh, July 27. ' When the dispute, between the Canterbury Shearers' Union and tlie Canterbury Sheepbwners' Union with reference to. shed hands in South Canterbury came before the Conciliation Council to'day, the employers flatly stated they declined to discuss prices, conditions, or anything else, and said the matter would have to go straight to the Arbitration Court. ~ j; ;"_ -; _ •
