During the debate on Mr Shacldeton's Bill party distinctions were obliterated. Mr F. Smith, member for Liverpool, moved and Mr J. Bryce (Inverness) seconded the rejection of the measure. Both argued that precedents drawn from Norway, Australia, and New Zealand were worthless for an Empire containing a hundred million. They opposed government by women or depending for majority on women.
